FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Is it a babysitting service or is there a curriculum?
A. Part of TodayCare’s value is that there is a curriculum created by our Child Life Specialist which goes beyond what some drop-in day care centers may provide. Enriching, age-appropriate activities are scheduled throughout the day, with time set aside for lunch and rest (for younger children). For sick children, activities are planned based on their needs.
Q. What is the caregivers’ background and training?
A. Our Center director is a trained professional, who has an undergraduate degree in childhood development or a related field. Our caregivers are trained in first aid, CPR, and child development. A registered nurse tends to the sick children throughout the day, gives medication as directed by parents and/or pediatrician, and completes an observation report to give to parents and pediatricians at the end of the day.
Q. What is the ratio of caregiver to child – for well children and sick children?
A. For well children, the ratios are 1:4 for infants; 1:6 for pre-schoolers; and 1:10 for school-age children. For sick children, the ratios are 1:3 for infants/toddlers and 1:4 for school-age children.
Q. Won’t my child get sick with something else if they’re around other sick children?
A. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, your child is more likely to become ill from exposure to an ill child at home or school rather than at our Centers. Most mild illnesses are in their contagious phase before the symptoms begin. Further, our high caregiver to child ratio, spacious rooms and adherence to strict hospital cleaning procedures and disease containment protocols greatly reduce the spread of mild illnesses. We always separate the children by age and illness; for example, we never mix children with upper respiratory illnesses with children with lower gastrointestinal illnesses.
Q. Is it easy to reserve a space for my child?
A. Yes. We can take reservations up to three months in advance for back-up care. We take reservations for sick children 24 hours a day. Our “NightCall” line is on after hours in order for parents to make a reservation for the following day.
Q. Is it secure?
A. All children and parents choose passwords. No information about your child is released to anyone, nor is your child released to anyone without the password. Additionally, parents must be buzzed in through two separate doors before reaching the care rooms.
Q. How about meals?
A. We ask that parents provide for their child’s meals. If approved by you, the Center provides juice and snack items.
Q. Do I need to come into the Center for drop-off and pick-up?
A. Yes. You must register your child with the Center director each time you use the Center, and remain with your child until they are released to a care room. This usually takes about five minutes. Child pick-up requires use of your assigned password. The Center has designated parking spots in front or nearby to ease drop-off and pick-up times.
